Andrea was joined on Friday by Morley Borough Independent Leader, Cllr Robert Finnigan, to hand over a petition of more than 1,300 signatures to Leeds City Council, the result of a joint campaign to save the Siegen Manor Care Home and Day Centre.

Back in November, Andrea hosted a meeting for constituents, many with family members living at or attending Siegen Manor, who had contacted her to express their fears about the council’s plans. Council officers were on hand to answer questions and defend their proposal. After the meeting, it was agreed that a petition would be launched to make the council aware of the key points that had emerged from discussions.

Commenting on the petition, Andrea said,

“I want to thank all of the people who added their name to the campaign to save Siegen Manor. I am hopeful that the strength of feeling demonstrated by this petition will have a real impact on the council’s decision.”

Cllr Finnigan said,

“The uncertainty surrounding Siegen Manor is having a serious impact on local people. It is of the utmost importance that the decision made is in the best interests of residents and the wider Morley community.”

The final decision on the proposed closure will be taken by the Council’s Executive Board in the near future.
