I’ve been a staunch supporter of Brexit for years, and I’m absolutely ecstatic that the British public have chosen to Vote Leave and Take Back Control. We now begin the process of liberating our country and our government from Brussels and chart our course in the world, independent and free.
This has been an incredibly hard-fought campaign and emotions have run high on all sides.
I am incredibly proud to have been elected in 2015 with David Cameron as Leader of the Conservative Party. Without him we wouldn’t be back as a majority government after eighteen years.
I’m incredibly sad that David has chosen to step down, though I understand his reasoning. He has been a fantastic Prime Minister and would have been well-placed to lead preparations for our exit from the EU.
David delivered this referendum, and now the party must rally together, fight a positive leadership election and continue to press for a better future for Britain, free from the shackles of the European Union.
I wish David, Samantha and their children all the very best.
