Andrea today asked the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt for assurances that he will press ahead with the Government’s 7 Day NHS despite Union opposition.
Following revelations in the Sun on Sunday uncovering the close links between the leaders of the British Medical Association (BMA) and the leadership of the Labour Party, Andrea asked:
“Over the weekend we learned of the close links between the leadership of the BMA and the party opposite.
“It seems they are more interested in pushing their own political agenda than securing the best deal for their members.
“Can my Right Honourable friend assure me that he will hold his nerve and deliver the 7 day NHS that will make the NHS safer for our patients?”
The Secretary of State answered:
“I can absolutely give my Honourable friend that assurance.
“This is essential for the constituents of all honourable members, whichever side of the house they’re sitting on.
“This government will always stand on the side of patients. The weekend mortality rates are not acceptable and that’s why we are doing something about it. “
Speaking after the session, Andrea said:
“I am pleased the Health Secretary reaffirmed his resolve to press ahead with these vital reforms.
“Patient safety is key, and these reforms will ensure a full service for those who need it most, every day of the week.”
