Andrea spent the day visiting residential care homes operated by Craegmoor, part of the Priory Group of companies.

Andrea recently attended the MP roundtable for the North of England held by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in parliament. Leeds and West Yorkshire were shown to have some of the poorest ratings in the North for quality of care. The CQC measures a service in five areas to determine if they are safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led.

Andrea joined the Area Manager Paul Torrance on a visit to three of the homes owned by Craegmoor, for adults with learning disabilities. Weekly fees range from £500 to £3000 depending on individual support needs.

Andrea said:

“It was evident in the homes that the Manager of the service is the lynch pin, using their knowledge, passion and drive to support staff and service users. I would like to thank them for inviting me into their homes and discussing honestly with me the challenges they face to maintain and increase CQC ratings.

“Dolphin Lane in Thorpe has a lovely family feel, I was reminded that this is their home, for some, it has been since they were children.

“As soon as you enter there is a wall of dreams for each person who lives there, the staff go to great lengths to help them achieve a dream every year.”

“At Ardsley House in East Ardsley I was lucky enough to meet some of the Boccia Team and the house cat. It is reassuring to know that care is taken to assist service users to do what they enjoy whether, it be college courses, gardening, art or travelling to go ten pin bowling.”

“At Gateholme in Carr Gate I met Barry Howey, who would love to visit Westminster, I will be pleased to contribute in some small way to him achieving his goals.”
