ED BALLS BEATEN IN DEBATE BY CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE IN HUSTINGS POLL
A survey carried out amongst those attending the only parliamentary hustings held in Morley and Outwood attended by sitting MP, Ed Balls showed a clear win for the Conservative candidate, Andrea Jenkyns. The survey was carried out by New Horizons Church who set up the hustings.
When asked, who came best out of the debate, 57.4% of those attending the hustings organised by the New Horizons Church said Ms Jenkyns compared with 29.6% for Ed Balls.
Asked to state their political sympathy at the start of the evening 42.6% said Conservative and 16.7% said Labour with 26% being undecided. At the end of the debate, as those undecided made their mind up, Andrea Jenkyns had increased her support by 16.7 percentage points to 59.3% and Ed Balls by 1.8% percentage points to 18.5%. Green support increased by 1.9 points to 9.3% whilst UKIP’s fell by 3.7 points to 3.7% with the percentage still undecided much reduced to 7.4%.
In a feisty performance, with frequent interruptions by both Ms Jenkyns and Mr Balls, memorable moments came when Ms Jenkyns asked of Ed Balls: “What do you know about the economy?” and when Ed Balls was left speechless when Ms Jenkyns asked that if he was so right about the economy how come every opinion poll for months had shown that the public by far trusted George Osborne more with the economy than him.
