"After several meetings with the club and supporters, we are very concerned about the current situation regarding Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and the proposed relocation of the club to Newmarket. We both believe that the leadership of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council is demonstrating a shocking lack of political will and that real change is needed in Wakefield.
Both of us are united in our desire to see the development of this new community stadium. We believe that not only do the fans deserve this, but it will result in a large number of jobs and significant investment in our area. We are very disappointed that the Labour Councillors and MPs have once again demonstrated a total lack of commitment towards Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
Fans of the club have been subject to broken promise after broken promise by Labour and it is time for action. We are both absolutely committed to getting this community stadium off the ground and today pledge to work immediately after the General Election with the Secretary of State and the club and Supporters Trust to ensure Wakefield Council honour its planning obligations towards Newmarket.
Put simply, this last week before the General Election gives us a real chance to secure a long term future for the Wildcats.
Andrea Jenkyns and Antony Calvert.
Michael Carter, Chairman of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats is supporting this campaign and said:
"We have had very little backing from any of the local councillors or MP's in our #fightfornewmarket. This is a golden opportunity to provide a real asset for the COMMUNITY. " We believe that Andrea and Antony have a real understanding and passion of what Wakefield Trinity means to the culture, history and heritage of this great city. We feel we have a much better chance of achieving our aims with them fighting for us locally and at Westminster."
Phil Townsend, Chairman of Stadium Wakefield Action Group echoed this sentiment and stated;
"After several meetings with Andrea and Antony I firmly believe they are genuine in supporting our campaign right through to the highest level to give us the best chance to get the result we need!".
