Andrea visited Fibre Extrusion Technology on Gelderd Road in Drighlington to find out how the Slack family went from making fibres for brush bristles to biomedical fibres to make stents for heart surgery.

The company offers a bespoke service manufacturing machinery to meet the wide-ranging specifications of their clients. Their machines are used around the world to make a range of materials ranging from doll hair to absorbable stitches.

During the visit Andrea toured the company’s facility in Drighlington and spoke to management and employees about the work the company does.

Andrea said:

“It is fascinating to hear about the evolution of a company which went from making brush bristles to developing machinery capable of manufacturing materials used in surgical operations.

“Fibre Extrusion Technology is a real local success story and it was a pleasure to visit.”

As a former retailer and manager, she understands the challenges faced by local businesses. She previously set up the Morley and Outwood Business Association and will later this month launch her new High Street Forum, aimed at bringing together local high street businesses to discuss new innovations to support our local high streets.
