Andrea visited local manufacturing business M-Jay Electronics Ltd in Morley, run by the Varley family.
John Varley and his wife and son manufacture Audeon products, one of which is a relatively small wireless audio transmitter used by most gyms in the country. In a world where most manufacturers are looking for the next big thing, John has a history of diversifying his company, growing small interests into huge successes.
This small family business engineering electronic equipment has contributed to equipment in defence, telephone systems in Hong Kong, police equipment in Sydney and even simulators for Challenger II tanks.
More recently what started as a hobby making a handful of bespoke cricket scoreboards for remote areas without sufficient power has grown, their scoreboards can now be found at more than 200 cricket grounds across the country.
Andrea said:
“I was hugely impressed by the range of products and skills on offer at M-Jay Electronics.
"Like any small business, adhering to regulatory requirements and legislation is a major part of their day-to-day lives.
"This is why, through initiatives like my Morley and Outwood Business Association, I am helping to bring together small businesses and those who can help and support them."
