Andrea was pleased to cut the ribbon on Saturday at the re-opening of the Morley Heritage Centre.
Town and Country Markets announced only a week ago that they would provide free space for local historian Peter Aldred to re-open his Morley Heritage Centre within Morley Market.
In just a few days Market Manager Shaun Lear had transformed a shell of a unit, laying a new floor, putting up shelves and clearing the rubbish. The opening was to coincide with a special discount day to mark the Love Your Local Market national campaign, shoppers could receive up to 30% off at market stalls.
Acting as the Morley Market Ambassador Andrea took to the streets to remind people of what is on offer in the Market, encouraging local people to rediscover the many shops it holds and take a peek at some real history in the Morley Heritage Centre at the same time.
Andrea said:
“As someone who started on the shop floor at 16 working in Gregg’s Bakery, going on to spend 18 in retail on the high street, I really do care about the success and sustainability of our high streets and market.
“We have a fantastic facility here in Morley Market, I think it is great that it takes part in national initiatives like the Love Your Local Market campaign.
“I have known Peter for almost 3 years, I am delighted we have finally found a place for his collection. I would like to thank Peter for all his hard work over the years and to everyone who has helped him get everything ready for the opening.
“Morley has such a great history and Peter has such a vast knowledge of it, it would be lovely if he could secure some help to spread the world about what a fine town Morley is.”
