Local Planning issues and the LDF (Local Development Framework) continue to cause concern. Andrea like many local people has deep concerns over the viability of the council’s Local Development Plan. She has been working closely with community groups for many months to ensure that our concerns are heard.
This has resulted in her organising meetings with the Secretary of State Eric Pickles and Housing Minister Nick Boles with local resident community groups. Andrea welcomes Eric Pickles decision to call in the Cottingley Springs Expansion. She is not against development per see; with our expanding and aging population we need new homes. However she is concerned as she does not believe the infrastructure can cope with these proposed development plans and would like to see better use of our brownfield sites and more affordable homes for local people and first-time buyers.
It is however encouraging to see that the latest ‘Help to Buy,’ scheme is supporting local people in the area to get on the housing ladder and In the last quarter the Help to Buy Scheme has helped 36 people in the Wakefield area of the constituency buy properties totalling nearly £1.1 million and in the Leeds area it has helped 88 people buy properties totalling £3.1 million.
As our population grows and the economic recovery continues it is natural that Morley and Outwood will need more houses, this also means we have to take action to ensure houses built in our area are of the right number, in the right place, and that our infrastructure can cope with increased demand.
Andrea describes how she has been getting involved in planning concerns throughout our constituency;
For two years I have been working with residents around the constituency on planning concerns; these include; Cottingley Springs, MacDonalds-Tingley, Lofthouse, Newton Hill, Gildersome, and general issues with the Wakefield Council and Leeds City Council's Local Development Framework Plans.
I’ve working with the Friends of Newton Hill Group to stop a developer building on the last piece of greenbelt in WF1, an ongoing campaign that Wakefield Council don’t care enough about. I’ve also supported Morley Against Reckless Construction and opposed the disproportionate amount of houses Labour run Leeds City Council’s Local Development Framework proposes to build in Morley, Ardsley and the surrounding settlements. As your MP I would ensure development in Morley and Outwood is of the type and scale acceptable to local people.
